Hello, Universe is told from the different perspectives of four middle school students, as their lives intersect in an unlikely and frightening way one Saturday in the woods between their houses. The story takes place just after the end of the school year and deals with issues such as bullying and disability, as well as friendship, self-discovery, and self-acceptance. The novel is written in a unique and engaging style, as the viewpoint shifts from one character to another.

Hello, Universe is the third novel by Filipino American author Erin Entrada Kelly, and has won numerous literary awards, such as the 2018 Newbery Medal. Kelly has also received awards for some of her previous work, such as a Golden Kite Award and an Asian/Pacific American Award for Children’s Literature.
