Born in Maryland in the 1700s, Benjamin Banneker lived an extraordinary life. As an African American, he faced racial prejudice. But despite the times in which he lived, Benjamin is remembered today for his many accomplishments. He was a scientist and author of a series of almanacs; a clock maker extraordinaire; and a successful farmer. Most importantly though, he challenged those who were unwilling to abolish slavery.
