World Deserts uses maps and globes to show location and other aspects of geography to explore the world’s great deserts. Students will explore the characteristics of desert landscapes and life forms, with a focus on the Sahara and Kalahari in Africa; the Outback of Australia; the Gobi in Asia; the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan in North America; and the Atacama in South America. Students also study people who live in deserts, such as the San people of southern Africa and the indigenous peoples of the Australian Outback.

Using CKHG in the Classroom
- For Social Studies: Used in their recommended sequence, CKHG materials can form the basis of an engaging Social Studies program that builds historical and geographical knowledge and skills grade by grade.
- For Language Arts: You can also use CKHG to integrate content-rich nonfiction into your Reading/Language Arts lessons. CKHG objectives are correlated with the Common Core English Language Arts standards, which call for increased reading of nonfiction informational texts.
