As a young Indigenous girl, Susan witnessed firsthand the trials and tribulations her people experienced. Susan, the daughter of an Omaha chief, became the first Indigenous person to earn a medical degree. Once qualified, she returned to the Omaha reservation where she worked tirelessly to provide medical care. Susan often rode through the night, in the frosty winter snow, to bring aid and comfort to the sick.
