Ecosystem Dynamics introduces Grade 7 students to the continuing concern about ecological damage and how ecosystems change due to intense disruption. The subtitle of the unit is: changing an ecosystem affect what lives there? The Student Reader is the integrated science literacy component of the unit. In the Student Reader students will examine the pros can cons of extracting resources, ecotourism to threated natural areas, changes in land areas over time, habitat fragmentation, invasive species, and more. Student Readers focus on aspects of science literacy, including factual articles, history of the sciences, art and literature, spotting bad science in the media and advertisements, graphics comprehension, research-type articles, reliability of sources, and other areas of science literacy.
