Earth’s Resources and Human Impact introduces Grade 7 students to the changes occurring in Earth’s environments and what can people do to continue to make Earth a safe place to live. The subtitle of the unit is: changes in Earth’s system impact our communities and what can we do about it? The Student Reader is the integrated science literacy component of the unit. In the Student Reader students will explore historical evidence of climate events, climate history, rising ocean levels and the threat to islands and shorelines, the issue of methane in our atmosphere, and more. Student Readers focus on aspects of science literacy, including factual articles, history of the sciences, art and literature, spotting bad science in the media and advertisements, graphics comprehension, research-type articles, reliability of sources, and other areas of science literacy.
