Matter Cycling and Photosynthesis introduces Grade 7 students ask questions and discover the nature of how sunlight is the basis for photosynthesis and how food and matter are cycled in nature. The subtitle of the unit is: Where does food come from and where does it go next? The Student Reader is the integrated science literacy component of the unit. In the Student Reader students will plants of the world and how each is adapted to capture sunlight, important food plants from around the world, the importance of glucose as the result of photosynthesis, plant products, food chains and food webs, and more. Student Readers focus on aspects of science literacy, including factual articles, history of the sciences, art and literature, spotting bad science in the media and advertisements, graphics comprehension, research-type articles, reliability of sources, and other areas of science literacy.
