The Twentieth Century Music unit presents the significant changes and new styles that emerged in music during the twentieth century, from modern orchestral works to the roots and evolution of popular genres like jazz, rock, and funk.
In Opera, students explore opera’s key components and experience famous pieces by renowned composers like Rossini and Verdi, culminating in a hands-on mini opera planning activity.
Students finish the year with a Musical Theater unit, as they explore the exciting world of American musical theatre, learning about its evolution from opera, discovering influential songwriters and composers, analyzing how music conveys emotion and tells stories on stage, and creating their own short musical pieces.
