Music
In the Core Knowledge Music (CKMusic) curriculum, students in K–8 are exposed to a variety of musical genres and learn about the fundamental elements of music, and how music can be used to comfort and inspire.
Students can enjoy music in many ways: they may listen to it, sing it, play it, move to it, and more. Core Knowledge Music gives students ways to explore all these forms of musical participation and in the process, expands their knowledge of theory, notation, and music history.
Music Curriculum Components
- The Student Activity Books are designed to teach and engage students through an understanding of music theory and an exploration of musical expression. (Note: There is no Student Activity Book for Grade K.)
- The Teacher Guide (Grades K–2) provides background information, instructional guidelines and notes, and guidance for student activities as well as Activity Pages that help give students a strong connection to the material.
- The Teacher Guide (Grades 3–8) is divided into units consisting of individual lessons that provide background information, instructional guidelines and notes, and guidance for student activities.
- The Online Resources provides links to other instructional and professional learning resources accessible online.
- The Playlist (from Spotify) consists of specific music selections for students to listen and respond to. These selections include the instrumental music and songs included in the 2023 Core Knowledge Sequence.
