Grade K of the Louisiana Bayou Bridges Curriculum Series introduces students to the four major subject areas of social studies: geography, history, economics, and civics. Students will learn how to read and use maps. They will explore different landforms, waterways, and human-made shelters found in the United States and around the world. They will explore people and episodes in history and learn how we commemorate these people and events with holidays. Students will explore basic economics concepts, learning the differences between goods and services, needs and wants, and spending and saving. Finally, they will learn about communities, the importance of rules in a community, and the role of symbols in representing state and national communities.
