Paul Baker

Biography

Paul Baker is a History Professor and Tennis Coach at The University of The Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico.  He has been a History teacher for 31 years.  Mr. Baker retired after 25 years with the Hobbs Municipal Schools where he taught students in all secondary grades.  A six time public school teacher of the year, he specialized in US History, World History, US Government, African American and Mexican American studies as well as Sociology.  In Mr. Baker’s last 6 years he taught AP World History at Hobbs High School as well as World History and US History at the University of The Southwest, where he has been selected as Teacher of the Year all 6 years.  Mr. Baker believes that education makes anything possible and that it is the responsibility of the teacher to motivate and captivate his or her students.

Title: Great Moments in American History

This session will reveal “Great Moments in American History,” from the perspectives of U.S. presidents Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt.  Guest speaker, Paul Baker will give costumed interpretations of each president, highlighting their presidencies and demonstrating how each iconic president made critical decisions and built his legacy.
