School Follow-Up Visit: Workshop
Audience
Schools that have participated in Getting Started in the past 18 months
Length
1–3 days
Prerequisites
To qualify for a school follow-up consultation, you must first:
- participate in the Getting Started workshop; and
- complete a self-evaluation of your curriculum plans and domain maps.
Objectives
Through a process of self-evaluation coupled with customized feedback from an experienced Core Knowledge consultant, school staff will have an opportunity to:
- discuss implementation progress, challenges, and successes;
- address specific school-wide and grade-level implementation questions;
- analyze and plan updates to the yearlong curriculum plan and domain maps;
- assess the general level of implementation on campus; and
- develop a realistic plan of action for increased progress with curriculum planning.
Summary
The School Follow-Up Visit for workshops is designed to review the school's progress since participating in the Getting Started workshop. The focus of the visit will be on curriculum planning and initial implementation of Core Knowledge content.
A Core Knowledge consultant will confer with school administrators, conduct grade level team meetings, and classroom observations. The curriculum planning rubric, the domain map rubric, and the Implementation Feedback Rubric tool will be used to guide this visit. If during this visit, a school demonstrates sufficient implementation progress, further professional development opportunities will be recommended.
If during this follow-up visit, the school demonstrates poor progress on curriculum planning, a more detailed remediation plan will be constructed by the Foundation in collaboration with the school.
