Getting Started with the Preschool Sequence
Objectives
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- summarize research findings on young children's intuitive understanding of mathematical concepts and how this relates to classroom instruction;
- identify how preschoolers construct mathematical understanding;
- idenfity the mathematics, time, and space goals and objectives of the Preschool Sequence;
- identify techniques for assessing mathematical, spatial, and temporal skills;
- identify and demonstrate the use of the materials and activities from each component of the Number WorldsTM program;
- identify and demonstrate the types of language and questions to support development of oral language and mathematical concepts; and
- describe the manner in which the week-to-week planning guide is used to organize math experiences in the classroom.
Summary
This unit introduces the participant to relevant research and theory, and gives the participants overview instruction in the Number WorldsTM math program.
