First, please read our general policies regarding trademark licensing and copyright permissions. (The document is in Adobe PDF format.)
If you are developing a product that aligns in some way with the content or supports the teaching of the content of the Core Knowledge Sequence or the Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence, you should request trademark licensing. For more information, download our request for trademark licensing form (in Adobe PDF format).
If you are developing a product that uses wording from the content of Core Knowledge books, including the subject headings from the Core Knowledge Sequence, or if you are interested in quoting a passage from one of the Core Knowledge books in a publication of your own, you should request copyright permission. 1. Who is permitted to use trademarked Core Knowledge logos and how?
Please note: Core Knowledge® is a registered trademark and cannot be used as part of a school's name.
It is important to all of us that any school that indicates that it is a "Core Knowledge School" represents a true committment to implementation of the Core Knowledge Sequence.
Only Official (K–8) Core Knowledge Schools and Core Knowledge Visitation Schools (K–8) can use the Official Core Knowledge logo. There is another version of this seal for Official Preschools.

  1. How do I get your permission to reprint part of ...
  • the Sequence?
  • a story from the Series books?
  • your website?
  • your newsletter?
While each permissions case is examined individually, it is good to keep in mind that the Foundation rarely grants permission to reprint multi-page sections of the Sequence or Preschool Sequence, both of which are protected by copyright. Also, the rights of reproduction for many selections in the Grader series are held by others and cannot be granted by the Foundation.
