Developing a Curriculum Plan for Implementation

Your goal is to develop a curriculum plan for implementing all of the Core Knowledge Sequence. Although you may choose to take up to three years to fully implement all of the Sequence, developing a long-range plan is important, because it will:

  • Ensure that all of the Core Knowledge topics are taught
  • Encourage consistency and communication
  • Give you a sense of pacing
  • Enable you to make decisions about how in-depth you can go into topics

Your curriculum plan should include:

  • Content from Core Knowledge at the appropriate level
  • Manageable time allocated for each topic
  • An evident pattern (topics are logically connected throughout the year)
  • Required standards
  • Skill objectives
  • All other school requirements

The templates provided here should serve as models to get you started; feel free to adapt them to the particular needs of your school. You do not need to use all of the templates — we offer a variety to give you many choices.
