Where Should I Start?
I would like to present at your National Conference. Where do I begin?
- Take some time to familiarize yourself with the Model Presentations and Units to get an idea of the quality expected.
- Look at the characteristics of high-quality assessments found here. Remember, we are interested in units with assessments that are reliable, valid, and that can be replicated by teachers regardless of their varying situations.
- Look at the list of Priority Topics, and start outlining your unit/presentation. Be sure to make explicit references to the topics listed in the Core Knowledge Sequence.
- Download a template or refer to the model presentations.
- Type your submission according to the format instructions. Following the format exactly will give all of the units/presentations a uniform appearance, making them more user-friendly. We will not accept any unit submissions that do not follow the detailed instructions exactly as stated.
- Each unit submission must include a 2-page outline/overview of the unit. This handout will be used in the handout notebook provided to all registered attendees and will replace handouts normally distributed during sessions. No online unit submission forms will be accepted without uploading the required 2-page handout.
- Review the Unit Submission requirements to ensure that you have completed all necessary required forms.
- Check your own submission using the Self-Evaluation Checklist for Core Knowledge to be sure it is ready for publication. Spell check, grammar check, and proofread your document. If different people have typed different parts of the unit, the contact presenter is responsible for checking the submission for format consistency. It is useful to have a "fresh" set of eyes review your unit as well; someone else will find details that you have overlooked.
- Complete the online submission form for your unit.
- Keep an electronic copy of your submission for your records before sending it via
e-mail,
online upload, or on a disk or CD.
Files larger than 1 Mb. should be uploaded or sent on a CD. You should submit only two Word files (not PDF): 1) the unit, and 2) the overview. Additional files will not be accepted. Your
completed submission is due to the Core Knowledge Foundation by June 2, 2008. Please write the contact name and the submission
title on the CD label and mail in a padded envelope to:
