O'Neal School
Here are photos, courtesy of Core Knowledge Coordinator Jim Miles, showing some of the wonderful student work that is always on display at the O’Neal School in Southern Pines, NC. When asked about his impressions and experiences using the Core Knowledge Curriculum, Mr. Miles replied as follows:
We have been a CK school since 1995. We are a National Visitation Site and I am a consultant for the Foundation.
The parents have always been wonderfully supportive of our programs and it was not until this year that I actually got some in-depth questions from parents as to why we do this and are we some radical kind of movement trying to make all schools in the world the same. These questions were easy to answer and the classrooms, teachers, and students speak for themselves. It is interactive and always changing. The students are as excited as the teachers and learning is evident wherever you go, whether in the elementary or the middle school. The walls inside and outside the classrooms are always decorated with student work and the Core curriculum is evident everywhere. We love having other schools visit, and the best part of that is that there is absolutely no preparation on the teachers’ part here. They just do what they do and I've never had to ask them to put on a “show” for the visitors.
Best wishes to faculty, students, and parents at the O’Neal School. Keep up the good work!
